Improving email deliverability
Written by Sam Serrien ·

SPF, DKIM and DMARC sound complicated, but they are essential for reliable email. We explain it in simple terms.
Why do your emails end up in spam?
Without proper authentication, receiving mail servers don't know if you really are who you claim to be. This results in emails landing in spam or not arriving at all.
The three pillars
SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
SPF tells the world which servers are allowed to send emails on behalf of your domain.
DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)
DKIM adds a digital signature to your emails, allowing the recipient to verify that the email has not been tampered with.
DMARC
DMARC combines SPF and DKIM and tells receiving servers what to do when a check fails.
Heads up
Without SPF, DKIM and DMARC, you risk malicious actors sending emails that appear to come from your domain (spoofing).
Pro tip
At GeNx, we configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC by default for all our mail hosting clients. One less thing to worry about.
