Why an SSL certificate is so important

Security, SEO, and trust — three reasons why an SSL certificate is indispensable for every website.

What is SSL?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encrypts the connection between your website and the visitor. You can recognize it by the padlock icon in the address bar and the "https://" protocol.

Three reasons why you need it

1. Security

Without SSL, data is sent unencrypted. This means passwords, form data, and other sensitive information can be intercepted.

Heads up

Websites without SSL are actively marked as "Not Secure" by Chrome and other browsers. This scares visitors away.

2. SEO advantage

Google favors websites with SSL. It's a ranking factor you can implement for free.

3. Trust

A padlock in the address bar gives visitors confidence. Especially for webshops and contact forms, this is essential.

Pro tip

At GeNx, SSL is included as standard with all our hosting plans. So you don't have to pay for it separately.
